Disturbing forces are energy such as wind blowing across the ocean's surface, storm surges or seismic seawaves, a sudden change in atmospheric pressure, landslides, volcanic erruptions or faulting of the sea floor...

The disturbing forces which create tides are changes in the direction of gravitational forces among the Earth, sun, moon, combined with the Earth's rotation.
