Historic Restaurant

over there where

old waiters

wait on old people

listening to old

stories over and over.

Women with little hair

and men with no teeth

share their experiences

talk about operations

and medications

death insurance

and burial plots.

They are so high

from just one glass

of tab water

and a handful of pills

before ordering

anything else.

And every month

another one doesn't

make it to dinner.

One less set up

at the stammtisch.

It's getting closer

every time as I am

waiting for my name

to be called

to its place in History

there I shall be.
